RANCHO CHILAMATE
FULL DAY TOUR WITH
BEACH RIDE AND LUNCH
Duration: Full Day Tour – $80 per person includes guided trail ride and lunch
Our FULL day tour includes: transportation from San Juan del Sur to the ranch (return) • western boots, hat and good tack • (BONUS – photography shoot of your ride) • strong healthy horses • English-speaking trail boss • Lunch at the local restaurant in Escamequita • Fun and Rum • 3 hours in the saddle • and …a portion of every ride goes to the local community development fund
Horseback is a truly intimate way to get in touch with your surroundings. En route to the beach we pass through the neighboring village, down back roads through the dry tropical forest to the beautiful Escamequita beach and lagoon. There is great wildlife viewing and we almost always meet up with Howler Monkeys. Walk your horse in the waves, canter down the beach and take in the majestic view of the cliffs and Costa Rica off in the distance. On the way back, we stop at the local restaurant Rancho Terre for lunch. It’s a great way to refuel and support the local businesses. We recommend the red snapper and tostones, but they make a darn good chicken burger too! BOOK IT!
Note:
- Pick up in San Juan at 9:30 am and expect to be back in town after 4 pm
- If Rancho Tere is closed, lunch will be served poolside at Rancho Chilamate

TWO BEACH BONANZA
Duration: 4 hours in the saddle – $75 per person
The first beach is Escamequita, a beach rarely visited by tourists and shared only with the locals surfcasting for dinner. (the campsite for Survivor 21) Then it’s a jungle trail up and over the headlands to the wide, dreamlike sands of Playa Las Tablas. If you’ve ever imagined yourself cantering with the wind in your hair and waves crashing at your heels, this is the ride for you. BOOK IT!
RIDE THE RIDGE – MOUNTAINTOP VISTAS
Price: $65 per person
Spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, back to San Juan del Sur and on a clear day to the volcanoes on Ometepe make this ride a truly magical one.
NATURE RESERVE TRAIL RIDE
Duration: 2 hours – $39 per person
Located directly behind Rancho Chilamate is a 450 acre private reserve. Nica Dev is dedicated to reforestation, preservation and rejuvenation of this critically endangered tropical dry forest ecosystem of western Central America. Horseback is a great way to get up close and personal with nature and you are likely to see monkeys on this one.
